The Icelandic Semi-Finals were held at Háskólabíó in Reykjavik, hosted by Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir & Salka Sól Eyfeld. The top 3 songs in each semi-final, chosen by televoting, qualified for the final. At the end of the 2nd semi-final an "expert" jury awarded one of the losing songs a 'wildcard' to the final.

Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir was a backing singer for Iceland in ESC 2009 & 2010. Amongst her backing singers was Kristján Gíslason who represented Iceland in ESC 2001. Regína Ósk represented Iceland in ESC 2008 in the group 'Euroband' & was a backing singer for Iceland in ESC 2001, 2003 & 2005. Amongst her backing singers was Sigríður Beinteinsdóttir who represented Iceland in ESC 1990, 1992, 1994 & was a backing singer for Iceland in ESC 2006.
