The Romanian Final was held on March 3rd at the TVR TV studios in Bucharest, hosted by Leonard Miron. The winning song was chosen by a mixture of televoting (50%) and an "expert" jury (50%).

Monica Anghel previously took part in the 1993 & 1994 Romanian Finals, came 1st, 8th and 10th in 1996, came 2nd in 1998 and 3rd in 2000. Marcel Pavel came 9th in the 1998 Romanian Final. At the ESC, Monica and Marcel came 9th.
