The Icelandic final was held on February 22nd at the RUV TV Studios in Reykjavik, hosted by Sigrún Waage. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 8 regional juries & an "expert" jury. A 10th song - Nýr heimur (New world) was withdrawn from the contest as the composer of the song (Björn Emilsson) was the director of the Icelandic Final.

Sigríður Beinteinsdóttir previously represented Iceland at ESC 1990 (in the group Stjórnin) and was a backing singer for Eyjólfur Kristjánsson in the 1987 Icelandic Final. Sigrún Eva Ármannsdottir previously came 3rd in the 1991 Icelandic Final. Amongst their backing group was Grétar Örvarsson who also represented Iceland at ESC 1990. At the ESC they came 7th. Helga Möller represented Iceland at ESC 1986 (in the group Icy). Karl Örvarsson was the drummer for Iceland at ESC 1989. Eyjólfur Kristjánsson who represented Iceland in ESC 1991 sang backing vocals for all 9 songs in the Icelandic Final.
