The Finnish final was held on February 17th at Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki, hosted by Kati Bergman. The winner was chosen by an "expert" jury.

Beat previously came 4th in the 1988 Finnish final. At the ESC they were equal 21st where Robinson (Robin Wikman) was one of their backing singers alongside Kari Kuivalainen who represented Finland in ESC 1986. Apollo 16 were Kari Kuivalainen & Beat. Anita Pajunen was a backing singer for Finland in ESC 1984, 1985, 1986 & 1989.
