The Austrian Final was held at the Nachtwerk nightclub in Vienna on March 8th, hosted by Alfons Haider. The winner was chosen by 9 regional juries.

Petra Frey came 17th at the ESC. Simone represented Austria at ESC 1990 while Marc Berry represented Austria at ESC 1980 in the group 'Blue Danube'.
