"Maria Magdalena, you are happiness and sorrow, Maria Magdalena, give me eternity"
The Austrian Final was held on March 30th at the ORF-Zentrum in Vienna, hosted by Andreas Steppan & Michael Niavarani, although the winning song had already been chosen before this. During February the 7 songs were played on the radio, after which the public were invited to vote for their favourite song by postcard. In the TV programme, pre-recorded videos of the 7 songs (all sung by Tony Wegas) were played before annoucing which song had won the postcard vote. From the 15245 postcards submitted, 6170 were for "Maria Magdalena".

Tony Wegas previously represented Austria at ESC 1992 & came 2nd in the 1991 Austrian Final. At the ESC he was 14th.
