The Yugoslav Final was held on March 7th at the Sava Centre in Belgrade, hosted by Dubravka Miloševic. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 8 regional juries.

Novi Fosili previously came 2nd in the 1981 Yugoslav Final, equal 4th in 1982, 2nd in 1983 & 2nd in 1986. At the ESC they were 4th. Tereza Kesovija represented Monaco at ESC 1966 & Yugoslavia at ESC 1972. Daniel represented Yugoslavia at ESC 1983. Seid Memic-Vajta represented Yugoslavia at ESC 1981.
