The Turkish Final was held at the Atatürk Kültür Merkezi in Istanbul on February 24th, hosted by Elçin Temel & Bülent Özveren. Before the final, there was a semi-final - click here for details: TURKISH SEMI-FINAL 1979 There were due to be 6 songs in the final, but "Bir yildiz" by Ilhan Irem was disqualified as it was released on an album before the final. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 17 regional juries.

Maria Rita Epik & 21. Peron never got to go to the ESC, as Turkish Television withdrew from the contest due to pressure from Arab countries not to attend the contest in Israel.
