The Swiss Final was held on February 21st at the Palladium in Geneva, hosted by Jean-Pierre Pastori. The winner was chosen by 3 regional juries, a press jury & an "expert" jury.

Peter, Sue & Marc previously represented Switzerland at ESC 1971, 1976 & 1979. They also came equal 3rd in the 1973 Swiss Final, 2nd in 1974, 2nd in 1975 & 3rd in the 1978 German Final. At the ESC they were 4th. Marc (Dietrich) was also one of the members of the group 'Swiss Union' as was Piera Martell who represented Switzerland at ESC 1974.
