The Swedish Final was held on March 2nd at the SVT TV Studios in Malmö, hosted by Eva Andersson. The winner was chosen by nine juries (split according to age) in two rounds of voting - the first to select the top 5 and the second to select the winner.

Kikki Danielsson previously represented Sweden at ESC 1982 (in the duo 'Chips'). She also came joint 1st in the 1978 Swedish Final, 4th in 1980 (with 'Chips'), 2nd in 1981 (with 'Sweets 'n' Chips') & 2nd in 1983. At the ESC she was 3rd.
