The Portuguese Final was held on February 12th at the RTP TV Studios in Lisbon, hosted by Herman José & Nicolau Breyner. Each song was performed by two different performers. The winner was chosen by postcard voting.

Os Amigos came 14th at the ESC. One member of the group was Paulo de Carvalho who previously represented Portugal at ESC 1974. Paulo also took part in the Portuguese Finals of 1971 (2nd), 1973 (4th) and 1975 (3rd & 4th). Another member of the group was Fernando Tordo who represented Portugal at ESC 1973. He also took part in the Portuguese Finals of 1969 (5th), 1970 (10th), 1971 (3rd) & 1972 (8th).
