The Norwegian Final was held on March 18th at the NRK TV Studios in Oslo, hosted by Egil Teige. The winner was chosen by the votes of an "expert" jury who awarded the songs rankings rather than points.

Jahn Teigen previously took part in the Norwegian Finals 1974, 1975 & 1976. At the ESC he came 20th. Anita Skorgan represented Norway at ESC 1977.
