The Israeli Final was held on April 1st at the Jerusalem Theater, hosted by Daniel Peer. The winner was chosen by the votes of 7 regional juries.

Avi Toledano previously came 3rd in the 1981 Israeli Final. At the ESC he was 2nd. Yardena Arazi represented Israel in 1976 as a member of the group Chocolate Menta Mastik. Izhar Cohen won the ESC for Israel in 1978.
