The Irish Final was held on February 20th at the RTE TV Studios in Dublin, hosted by Mike Murphy. The winner was chosen by 10 regional juries.

The Swarbriggs previously represented Ireland at ESC 1975 & came 5th in the 1976 Irish Final. At the ESC they were 3rd. One of the "Plus Two" was Alma Carroll who previously came 4th in the 1968 Irish Final & 2nd in 1973. Dickie Rock represented Ireland at ESC 1966.
