The French Final was held on March 20th at the Théâtre de l'Empire in Paris, hosted by Jean-Pierre Foucault & Marie Myriam. A sample of TV viewers were telephoned after the final to vote on the songs.

Guy Bonnet previously represented France at ESC 1970. At the ESC he was 8th. Joël Prévost represented France in 1978. Isabelle Aubret represented France at ESC 1962 & 1968. Jean-Paul Cara was a backing singer for Luxembourg at ESC 1980.
