The Danish Final was held on February 27th at the DR-TV Studios in Copenhagen, hosted by Jørgen Mylius. The 10 songs were reduced to 5 finalists before the winner was chosen by 5 regional juries.

Kirsten & Søren previously represented Denmark at ESC 1984 & 1985. They were also 4th in the 1986 Danish Final. Kirsten also came 7th in the 1983 Danish Final & 5th in 1987. At the ESC, they were 3rd.
