The Portuguese Final was held on February 24th at the Teatro São Luiz in Lisbon, hosted by Lourdes Norberto. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 18 regional juries.

Simone de Oliveira previously represented Portugal at ESC 1965. She also came 3rd & equal 8th in the 1964 Portuguese Final and 6th & equal 8th in 1968. At the ESC she was 15th. Madalena Iglésias represented Portugal at ESC 1966.
